A song that reminds you of somewhere

We Will Rock You, by Queen

Reminds me of a summer camp where I was a camper for 2 or 3 years and returned when I was 16 to be a counselor-in-training/worker (working in the kitchen).

I made life-long memories at that place.  I had my first "boyfriend" there--we were like 10 years old so it was very innocent.  However I kept in touch with the guy until we were about 14 and then I "broke up" with him for some dumb reason--I think he had BO or something.  Recently he found me on facebook and we chat sometimes.

I also had my first serious crush on an older guy--he was a counselor.  I found him on facebook too, but he never posts or anything.  (I have a serious knack for remembering names--I swear I'm not a stalker though)

Later when I was a teenager a lot of significant milestones happened again.  It was a crazy summer.  I can't look at one of those stands where you fill a bottle with colored sand, or hear the song "Fire On High" by ELO without thinking about our days off which were spent at the amusement park nearby.

I want to visit the place, but I'm afraid.  I want to keep the memories the way they were, and not tarnish them by seeing how much the place has probably changed.  I always want to remember the sleepovers on Squirrel Island with the creepy old house we swore was haunted, and the rec room, and the graham crackers and milk we used to get before bed, and making plastic lanyards in arts and crafts, the waterfront, the dining hall....everything.

Which brings me back to the song that reminds me of the place.  They always used to play "We Will Rock You" in the dining hall and that was where I properly learned how to bang on the table and clap in time to the beat.

Good times.
