Spikesgirl58 gave me the number 10 for me to list 10 things about myself. Ask for a number in the comments and you have to list that many things about yourself.

1. I am a die hard NKOTB fan.

2. I'm a cat person

3. I don't have a sweet tooth, but I need my cheese

4. I like drama/comedy that also makes me cry

5. I have to feel a personal connection to music. I might not like a song but when I see it performed live or get a memory attached to it, I might suddenly like it.

6. I care too much about what people think of me.

7. I need to have personal goals for just about everything for it to be worth it for me.

8. I still love Disney/Pixar movies. I tried to stop myself from liking Disney when I was in high school. I thought I had to grow up. I had tons of little stuffed animals from the Disney store that I got rid of in an attempt to move on. It obviously didn't work.

9. I am antisocial but crave attention.

10. All I ever want is to make a difference to someone. If I change someone's life who knows what they may go on to do.

Day 6. Favorite superhero and why.

I've seen many superhero movies but never read any comics and honestly I probably would have skipped all the movies if my husband didn't like them.  We just saw Superman 2, the one with Andrew Garfield and I liked it more than I thought I would.  I adore Emma Stone, and I thought Andrew Garfield was good.  I liked his dorky, awkward style.

I've seen the X Men Movies, the Batman movies, one of the Superman movies, the Spiderman movies and the Avengers movies (and all the movies with those characters: Hulk, Captain America, etc.)

It's hard to pick.  I like Captain America for his looks and his old fashioned style.  I like Spiderman because he seems real.  He seems like a regular guy in a costume, rather than a guy who is really a superhero.  He's not an alien or a guy from a different time or a mutant.  Well, I guess he kind of is a mutant.

My son prefers Marvel over DC.  He just finished playing Lego Marvel Superheroes on the xbox and he loved it.

Day 02 - The meaning behind your LiveJournal name.

I kind of love explaining this one, because the meaning still rings true for me.

When I
create journal and blog names it's usually something meaningful to me, or it's some shortened version of my actual name, like KateS which I've used a couple times, or katesu, but when I dare to be more creative I come up with something meaningful, something from my past like daylilies or raspberries. In the case of becomingkate, it's an ever-evolving sentiment.

I used to want to become something. I used to think that someday, I'd just wake up and be the adult version of myself. I never really asked anyone to help guide me into this new phase of my life. I
just expected it to happen.

When I
created this account (I originally created this name at livejournal, if you're reading this at DW), I think I was still in that mindset, that someday I'd become who I was meant to be. And then I realized, life is always about evolving and changing and becoming different versions of yourself. It doesn't just happen and it doesn't always stay the same.

So, I
think I am always becoming Kate.

End of year meme (because it's never too late to live in the past)

1. What did you do in 2013 that you'd never done before?
Went on a Disney cruise

2. Did you keep your new year's resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
I don't seriously make those. I make intentions but I don't really hold myself to them.

3. Did anyone close to you give birth? No

4. Did anyone close to you die? One of my kitties did, sadly.

5. What countries did you visit? Does the Bahamas count?

6. What would you like to have in 2014 that you lacked in 2013? A job? Hobbies? Something worthwhile?

7. What date from 2013 will remain etched upon your memory, and why? No one date in particular.

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year? Not really an achievement, but I left the UU church. It was sort of a big step for me and I'm still trying to figure out if it was a good one or not.

9. What was your biggest failure? Not improving as a parent as much as I hoped.

10. Did you suffer illness or injury? In December I went in to get some bladder stones removed and after that the entire month was a disaster. We were all sick, one after the other, sometimes all of us at the same time, sometimes in rotation. I still have an irritating cough.

11. What was the best thing you bought? NKOTB Cruise tickets...again :P

12. Whose behavior merited celebration? My family, lovely as always and making me side eye pretty much every other family I hear stories about. Why do so many families have to be dysfunctional? I know everyone has their problems...but wow.

13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed? My husband, mostly. My son, but he's 7. He has an excuse.

14. Where did most of your money go? Bills. The cruise, birthday and Christmas presents for our son.

15. What did you get really, really, really excited about? I...don't get really really really excited these days, which is sad. I guess I was mostly excited about the cruise, and my cousin's wedding and my SIL's wedding which are all this year (and not overlapping! yay!)

16. What song will always remind you of 2013? Carry On-Fun. I think it's pretty much the song for the rest of my life, now.

17. Compared to this time last year:
happier or sadder? About the same. Maybe a little sadder because things are the same.

Older or wiser? Mostly older :P

Thinner or Fatter? Fatter

18. What do you wish you'd done more of? Productive things

19. What do you wish you'd done less of? Being uptight

20. How will you be spending Christmas? This is how we can tell this is old. I spent Christmas with my husband, and then with my mom and her family and my family, and ended it with my husband and me opening our presents to each other.

21. How will you be spending New Years Eve? Sick, on the couch, struggling to stay up until midnight.

22. Did you fall in love in 2013? No

23. How many one-night stands? None.

24. What was your favorite TV program? Breaking Bad

25. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year? Getting there :P

26. What was the best book you read? I don't really read, but I did start Little Star shortly after Christmas. Good so far :)

27. What was your greatest musical discovery? Fun. (I'm terribly mainstream)

28. What did you want and get? Some books, Lush products, and some things I didn't know I wanted

29. What did you want and not get? Wicked tickets! What the hell!

30. What was your favorite film(s) of this year? The Hunger Games

31. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you? 34. It's bad...I don't remember what I did. LOL Must have been awesome.

32. What would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying? Being with someone who makes me happy daily, not just on certain occasions

33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2013? Jeans, t shirts, pretty much grubby casual like usual

34. What kept you sane? Sleeping in, spending my days alone

35. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most? Joey McIntyre

36. What political issue stirred you the most? Animal rights

37. Who did (do) you miss? I miss people I've never had.

38. Who was the best new person/ people you met? my cousin's fiancee Jess. She seems wonderful and I'm happy for them.

39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2013: I can't really say I've learned anything this year. Well, I have, but whether I'll put those things to use is another question.

Meme Question 4

Childhood fears

Ghosts, I suppose, were my big ones.  I mean, I guess I wasn't really afraid one was going to hurt me, but I was totally into looking at pictures of them (I had a couple ghost books) and the images would haunt (pun intended) my brain long after.  It's the same way, now.  Ghosts fascinate and scare me.

Answers to questions

credit to [livejournal.com profile] roonilwazlib6
- Comment with "Hit me!"
- I'll respond by asking you five questions so I can get to know you better.
- Update your journal with the answers to the questions.
- Include this explanation in the post and offer to ask other people questions.

1. If you could live one moment over again in your life, what would it be?

Hmm, how long can a moment be?
Honestly, I would go back to my college days, when I met (what I thought was) a great guy and we had an awesome weekend in Washington DC.  I was totally into signs and I thought every other thing meant that we were meant to be together.  There was a beautiful sunset and I thought I was in love.  Unfortunately he later told me he thought of me like a sister.  So I guess my moment would be seeing that sunset and feeling like I was where I should be.

2. If you could change your first name, what would you change it to?

Zoe.  My mother told me if I hadn't been Katherine I would have been Zoe.  I've been in love with the name ever since.

3. Biggest celeb crush -- male and female?

Male: Don't Laugh--Joey McIntyre from New Kids on the Block.  Seriously, there is nothing better than having an idol in your preteens and him coming back when you're in your late 20's and he's still hot and you actually get to meet him and live the dreams you never knew you had (such as going on a cruise with them this summer)
Female: Sarah McLachlan circa the Fumbling up to Surfacing era.

4. Who would you cast to play yourself in the movie about your life?

Claire Danes, but we'd have to go back to her My So Called Life days.  She was totally me.

5. Name three songs that would be on the accompanying soundtrack.

Jimmy Eat World: The Middle
Hallelujah: Imogen Heap's version
Welcome to Wherever You Are: Bon Jovi

What is your middle name and do you like it?

I'm named after my mom's aunt, who was a really lovely lady.  She had a daughter who had spina bifida who died shortly after birth, and I have spina bifida, so I was probably more special to her than I realized at my young age.  She died when I was 7 or 8, probably.  We still go to her old house (now her daughter owns it) for our "cousins" reunion every year.  I loved her and her husband but I have some major guilt associated with her husband, who is also deceased.  I was a bit older when he passed away, and he had Alzheimer's and frankly that scared me.  I avoided him because I didn't know how to deal with it, and then he died.  I still feel terrible about that.

Sooo anyway, I love my middle name (which is Jean, by the way).  And I think it's cool that my husband has the same middle name, but it's the French pronounciation.

A song you listen to when you're sad

I don't listen to anything in particular when I'm sad, but quite a few songs *make* me sad. Basically, my life is a long line of nostalgic moments. There was summer camp, then high school, then working at the same summer camp, then college, and the last 10 or so years of my life have been *meh*, but with a few nostalgic moments sprinkled in.

Lots of things, from Sarah McLachlan's Surfacing, to the Celtic music I mentioned in an earlier post in this meme, to Dave Matthews Band, remind me of days and people gone by. Generally these memories make me sad because they remind me of simpler, often happier days.

...I need happier music on my ipod. Since I started working out at the gym much more often, I've gotten a lot of use out of it, but I have to skip by so many songs that are too slow or depressing. Anyone have any favorite happy music? I'm generally into mainstream-type stuff, but I can think out of the box too. Something that's good to walk to at a quick pace would be nice.

A song from your favorite album

I don't really have a favorite album right now.  I guess you could say that the Wicked soundtrack is one of my favorites.  I adore the song Defying Gravity.  It gives me chills, and I love to watch the performance of it at the Tonys a few years ago.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3g4ekwTd6Ig
The actress who plays the witch (Idina Menzel) suffers from asthma and also apparently broke her ribs not long before this performance (I think she had an accident during one of the shows).  She's not usually that gaspy.  Still I think she pulled it off amazingly, and at such a pivotal moment in the show.  Defying Gravity wraps up the end of the first act.
The whole soundtrack, and show, is just amazing.  It's everything I love in a Broadway musical--smart, funny, and emotional.

A song you wish you heard on the radio

Okay, I hate to go all boy band on you again but seriously, I miss the days where I'd hear new kids on the block every time I changed the station.  They have a new (new as in two years old as opposed to 20) album out now and it's just getting no airtime.  Even when it came out, it didn't get much publicity.

OMG, I just saw two awesome commercials in a row.  A Quiznos commercial with cute kitties and a movie called "Vampires Suck".  It looks like a pretty terrible spoof on Twilight, but I dig anything that's a parody of Twilight.

My husband just got called out to work.  :(  He's a cable guy, and he has the pager this week which means he gets called out whenever something goes wrong after hours.

Here's another guilty pleasure of mine--I'm watching the new season of Scream Queens.  Remember the first one was in search of a new actress for Saw 6 (I think it was 6)?  This one is for Saw 3D.  At least I have something to watch while my husband is out.
