A song from your favorite album

becomingkateI don't really have a favorite album right now. I guess you could say that the Wicked soundtrack is one of my favorites. I adore the song Defying Gravity. It gives me chills, and I love to watch the performance of it at the Tonys a few years ago.

The actress who plays the witch (Idina Menzel) suffers from asthma and also apparently broke her ribs not long before this performance (I think she had an accident during one of the shows). She's not usually that gaspy. Still I think she pulled it off amazingly, and at such a pivotal moment in the show. Defying Gravity wraps up the end of the first act.
The whole soundtrack, and show, is just amazing. It's everything I love in a Broadway musical--smart, funny, and emotional.
