I've been on cruises twice but they were the new kids on the block cruises so I don't know how much they are like regular cruises. We were looking at Disney because they would be fun for our son. Not sure how much a regular cruise would have to do for kids.
The nkotb cruises, when you'd get to a place where the boat was stopping for a bit (it was a day) you could stay on the boat or get off. One year I stayed on and the next year we got off for a little while.
"Port of call" just means where you get on the boat.
Seven nights is a bit long because we're not sure if my son or husband would be great with being on the sea. My husband gets nauseous easily and it would be better if it were only 3-4 days in case he doesn't feel great.

Thanks for the ideas, I will look into those!
