So what I'm figuring out about the elf on the shelf haters is that they mostly hate it because they're jealous of people who 1) have the time, 2) actually remember to do it every night, and 3) don't feel put out by having to "clean up the mess" the next day. First of all, there's only a mess if you make one. Second...it's really that hard to remember? I'd forget my head if it weren't attached but the closest I've come to forgetting the elf is getting into bed and going "Oh crap...the elf." Okay, so there was another time I forgot and my husband said he'd remember, and didn't. That was his fault. :P We just told our son that Elfie really likes to play xbox. LOL. Third...if you don't have the time to move a small doll to another spot in the house and maybe set up a couple little props to make a story, what the hell are you doing with your evening? Oh right...you're writing articles on how much you hate elf on the shelf.
Elf on the shelf is like a lot of things. You don't like it, don't do it. Don't shit all over other people who are just trying to encourage some good behavior (we don't even do this part, because yes it is creepy to say a doll is watching you), or even just put a smile on their kid's face.
