Aug. 9th, 2013 10:52 am Just as I start to become confident in my opinions, I end up getting in over my head and possibly offending people. In one of my close knit facebook groups there were some comments made about homeschooling and public schooling, opinions on both sides were made and I opened my mouth and I don't know what I said wrong that nobody else had said but some people got huffy and pulled out the "I didn't expect this kind of criticism from this crowd" line. Like just because we've all been talking for years, that we can't disagree on some practices. I mean, I have nothing against homeschooling if it's done right. The same can be said for public schooling. But I believe there are flaws on both sides and I said so.
I get all irked when parents come down on public schooling because it's not encouraging their kids to be special little snowflakes (and that is the term I was dying to use in my facebook group, but I knew that would not go over well). In the real world you're not treated like a special little snowflake. If you're raised to think that you are and act like you are, you're going to get eaten alive. Just my opinion. Yes you can be unique and do anything you dream of but I believe the people who are born to do that, will do that even if they went to public school. Or hell, even dropped out. Your education doesn't make you who you are. It's what you do with it.
I just got the feeling that people thought I was talking out of my ass because I don't work in a school system and I don't homeschool my kid so what can I know about either one? Like my simple little layman's opinion was silly.
I've been thinking recently that the more I get to know these women, the less I like them. It's too bad it took me so long.
