Every day, do something that scares you.
Mar. 11th, 2011 05:22 pmNot in a "OMG creepy!" or dangerous kind of way, but in a "this is just outside my comfort zone" kind of way.
I started this a while ago, and I have not done it every day, but here are some things I've done so far:
1. Look someone in the eye and smile. This is easier if it's someone you already know and you just generally have a problem making eye contact, like I do. I wouldn't recommend doing it to a stranger on a subway or a dark alley, unless you're into that kind of thing.
2. Go out of your way to plan a lunch or movie or other outing with someone you're not already close friends with. This is a huge problem for me but I have to get past it if I want my son to have any friends.
3. Apply for a job that is out of your league or not one of your immediate talents (be sure you have a plan if you actually get accepted to this job--can you take it, or will you say you already got an offer, etc.). I applied to be a volunteer DJ on an online radio station last week. I haven't heard back yet--I'm supposed to hear back today, which is why I'm keeping myself busy right now, and what prompted me to start this post. I can actually take the position, if by some small chance they accept me.
So yeah, that's what I'm working on lately. If you have done anything like this, I'd love to hear some ideas.
