I just watched Dawson's Creek (yes, I am rewatching the whole series) with the last episode Dawson's father (John Wesley Shipp) did and I'm very much regretting not meeting him when I had the chance. He came to a sci fi con about an hour from us in November and I decided not to go because he was the only person I really wanted to see and I didn't want to drag the whole family. Now...I regret.
Seriously though, he is one hunk of a man. I know I'm watching a show from 15 years ago but if you look at pictures of him now, he is still a nice looking man. (I know he's also been in recent shows such as Teen Wolf and many soap opera roles but I've not seen any of them) I've read that he's very nice when you meet him, too. That's my fear-that you sort of mold an actor's personality on the role you know them by and they don't turn out to be like that. It is acting, after all. Anyone can do it, even musicians. But I enjoy hearing when celebrities are nice people.
Dawson's father is a strong father figure, but he makes mistakes. He's flawed--he's known for jumping on Dawson for making "the wrong decision" when he himself has made mistakes. His relationship with Gail and their roles as parents seem almost made up as they go along, not this perfect, united front of a parental team that so many tv shows portray. It's good to see a show aimed at teens that portrays parents as the humans they are. Parents don't always know what they're doing and this is evident in all the parental roles of Dawson's Creek.
My son and I are going to get flu shots today. He's not looking forward to it but I said he could get a lollipop afterward. I just keep hearing about how bad it is this year, and even though I'm not working, I don't want to spend my free time feeling like crap. Plus, if my son gets it, he'll be home from school and we'll both be sitting around feeling like crap. No thanks!
